The Team

Aetion practices DevOps - where both systems and software engineers are involved in the day to day management and support of Aetion's platform.

The primary difference in the roles is one of focus - the systems team builds the infrastructure and tooling to support the platform, and the software team builds the Aetion application platform.

Stack

Our distributed platform is hosted both in AWS and also on customer premises. We currently use Chef for automation to ensure that a small team of operational staff can easily handle our large and growing estate and use Docker for containerization to ensure consistency across deployment environments.

Our application is mostly Java, including our healthcare analytics engine. Like many places we use MySQL although its role here is mainly for metadata storage. For object storage, we use S3 in the cloud. 

With health data in our platform, security is paramount. Our on-premise environments often contain personally identifiable health data so we maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to build a healthy and strong DevOps Culture
  • Build the tools that deploy, run, and support our distributed platform
  • Guide developers on application architecture to ensure highly operable services
  • Ensure and improve the security of our platform
  • Solve problems across the stack

Who We are Looking For:

You are not afraid to jump into a challenge and get your hands dirty. You are someone who is focused on programmatic solutions to manual problems. You're interested in impacting an organization's bottom-line through highly-efficient systems. You know your way around linux (we use ubuntu), and are equally skilled at writing maintainable code. As Aetion is fast-paced, we need you to get going quickly and meet the following as requirements:

    • Desire to automate the world around you
    • Development ability in either Python, Ruby, Java, or Scala is a requirement
    • Understanding of configuration management and orchestration systems like Chef, Ansible or Terraform.
    • Interest in building and scaling AWS infrastructure; specifically with EC2, S3, Route53, and RDS; experience is a plus.
    • Sandboxed and played with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery tooling such as Jenkins, Bamboo etc.
    • Interest in solving complex issues on Linux systems, and/or within the JVM
    • Understanding of containerization and implementation using Docker
