Position Overview

We are looking for passionate engineers to help manage and deploy our software systems. We want to work with smart and motivated people who have an interest in large-scale distributed systems, automation and orchestration. Our culture values engineers who take responsibility for the development and operation of our software and ensure solid lines of communication across all groups. You’ll collaborate with scientists, engineers and storytellers in a fun, fast-paced, purpose-driven atmosphere with flexible hours and competitive perks.  

Our stack includes:  Python, Git, MariaDB, Cassandra, Nginx, NSQ, Redis, Ansible, Sentry, graylog2, Datadog, Docker, Jenkins.

Essential Duties

  • Work with our engineers to handle exponentially growing sensor data volume.
  • Improve and evolve our continuous integration setup.
  • Help make our provisioning and deploy processes faster and easier.
  • Ensure excellent availability in the face of provider disruptions.
  • Assist in ramping up our containerization effort.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable in a Linux/Unix shell.
  • Basic proficiency with Bash.
  • Fluent in at least one higher level programming language.
  • Knowledge of at least one config management system (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, etc).
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with central logging tools.
  • Understanding of monitoring and alerting best practices.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Bonus Points

  • Python experience in a production environment.
  • Experience with operations in a high-traffic environment.
  • Docker and container orchestration experience.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP.
  • Working operations knowledge of Cassandra.
  • Experience administering distributed processing platforms (Hadoop, Spark, etc).
